About Us
The George W. Trapp Company is a third generation family business. The company started during the Depression in 1930 and was first called Great Lakes Screen Company. George Trapp launched the business building wood screens in a small shop in his garage.
In the beginning, he ran a retail operation in the front of the building and the family lived in the back. As business increased, they expanded into a new shop and storefront on Livernois in Detroit. In 1943, Mr. Trapp purchased a factory in Redford Township and the name was changed to the George W. Trapp Company. The company began manufacturing storm windows and storm doors and selling wholesale to dealers in the Detroit area and throughout Michigan.
In 1950, we began welding our storm doors and storm windows with a heliarc weld that has the strongest guarantee in the industry. Since that time well over one million Trapp® Storm Doors have been installed on hundreds of thousands of homes throughout the region. If you grew up in Michigan from 1943 to today, chances are you've walked through a Trapp® Storm Door!
Today, with the addition of steel and fiberglass entry doors, Trapp® products are truly a fusion of form and function and are still proudly made in Michigan by Michigan workers. Our focus on energy efficiency goes hand-in-hand with a wide selection of exciting styles and colors. Now entering the third generation of the time-honored Trapp family commitment to continuous quality and innovation, our success and longevity have evolved from our namesake and founder‚ simple business strategy:
“Manufacture the best products possible, price them fairly, and be sure the needs of our dealers and their customers are always a top priority.”
